Safety Inquiry unitDuring Term One, the whole school has had a focus on Safety. This has been the topic of our inquiry for the term and has involved the exploration of several areas that affect our children in their everyday lives. Children have looked at being firewise, keeping safe at the beach, riding safely and the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme. Earthquakes and Tsunami’s have been at the front of many minds and we have been able to incorporate this into the study. The senior classes also had first aid training with St Johns and while it is good that they now have these skills, we hope they do not have to use them any time soon. Children really enjoyed the opportunity to meet with professionals in each of the areas and put some of their newfound knowledge into practice. Squirting the fire hose was definitely a highlight for many.
